Hockey Night in Canada
The Admiral Hockey team hit the ice this year for their second season with over 25 players; up from 15 last year. The team acknowledges the financial support they have received from Admiral, including the Admiral Community Chest and especially the Halifax Sport and Social Committee, has been key to supporting the team and providing for a much longer season this year.
Sporting their newly designed NHL styled jerseys; the players have been skating up a storm every Monday night at a local rink much to the delight of the fans who brave the cold to watch the games. This year the schedule runs through until the end of March, with the last 3 games being billed as the playoffs to win the much coveted Admiral Cup.
One of the highlights for the team this year was the chance to entertain a large crowd of friends and family at the 10,000 seat Metro Centre in a game which kicked off the 2011 Children's Holiday Party.
Something new to the team this season, has been their commitment to giving back through raising money in support of local charities. To date the team has raised money for Hope Cottage, a local soup kitchen, and Kids Sport which provides funding to financially disadvantaged children so they can participate in sports.
The newly styled jerseys have been so popular in Canada that over 50 staff in Halifax ordered hockey jerseys and the team sprung for one more so that during Henry's visit to the Halifax site, he received a jersey of his own. Henry mentioned this might be something staff in the UK might be interested in purchasing and now the order is in and the jerseys will be popped in the post and over the pond soon enough.
